Functions
- A pneumatic cylinder is pressurized with compressed air and, via the lever arms attached to it, balances the weight of the load.
- Optimal material handling in the workplace.
- Enables “weightless” handling.
- Exceptional maneuverability, smooth operation, and lightness.
- Rotation, swiveling, precise positioning, and handling within a large working area.
- Column and, if necessary, wall mounting; mobile installation also possible.
- Internal braking system.
- Suitable for bulky loads.
Safety features
- Anti-Jump: If the load breaks away, the device remains in its position.
- Anti-Drop: If there is a sudden drop in pressure, the device remains in its position.
- Anti-Drift: In the event of a sudden pressure drop, the rotation axes are braked.
- Overpressure safety valve
Braking functions
The internal brakes on the main rotation axis and boom are mechanically activated when depressurized. The user can open these via the pneumatic system, allowing the device to be moved effortlessly and easily.
Upon request, the brakes can also be pneumatically engaged during operation, thereby achieving increased braking force.
If a load that is too heavy is lifted: Slow descent to the lower position. Lifting the load is not possible.

When lifting a load that is too heavy:
- Slow descent to the lower position
- Lifting the load is not possible
Various operating modes available
- Automatic balancing control with integrated scale (optionally available in the gripper): When the scale is activated, the weight is immediately detected upon pickup, and the supporting force adjusts automatically. The scale can be turned on and off at the push of a button.
- Manual constant balancing control: If the same load is always being moved, the corresponding weight can be set via a valve. Weight compensation is activated after gripping by pressing a button.
- Manual variable balancing control: If different individual parts with varying weights are picked up, the weight compensation can also be manually adjusted each time the load is picked up.
Applications
The MANTIS parallel-arm manipulator is used in situations where:
- Torques occur at the load attachment point
- a load must be picked up off-center
- no torques can occur at the load attachment point
- the manipulator must reach into a machine opening and access from above is not possible
